Understanding and Preventing Suicide

It's an action driven by individuals consumed by their fears, often oblivious to the strengths within them. Those who contemplate suicide tend to focus solely on their present struggles, disregarding how they've persevered for years and failing to consider the dreams their parents have for their future. In my opinion, there are three main underlying causes of suicide:

  1. Regret and Discouragement from Parents: The first and most significant factor is the role of parents. Some parents constantly compare their children to others, saying things like, "Look at how well she studies," or "See how talented he is." These comparisons do more harm than good, making individuals feel inadequate and labeling themselves as losers. In an attempt to please their parents, they abandon their true selves and pursue paths they don't genuinely enjoy, resulting in immense inner pain and, tragically, suicide. Prevention: Parents should take the time to understand their children's interests and encourage them to pursue their passions. Instead of pushing them to be someone they're not, parents should provide the support and freedom to let their children spread their wings.

  2. Loss of Self-Confidence: Another significant cause of suicide is the loss of self-confidence. People constantly compare themselves to others, erroneously believing that everyone else possesses superior qualities and strengths. This self-comparison can erode their self-esteem and sense of self-worth. Prevention: Friends and loved ones should play a crucial role in this situation. By recognizing and highlighting an individual's unique talents and qualities, they can help rebuild their self-confidence. A supportive network can motivate them to believe in themselves again.

  3. Negative Influence: In some cases, individuals who excel at what they do can fall victim to negative influences. These influences lead them to make regrettable decisions, causing guilt and shame that they can't face. This emotional turmoil can drive them to contemplate suicide. Prevention: To counteract negative influence, individuals should trust their own judgment and think carefully before making any decisions. It's essential to plan and evaluate the importance of each action in one's life. Believing in oneself, even in the face of doubt, is paramount.

By addressing these underlying causes and promoting self-acceptance, understanding, and resilience, we can work towards preventing suicide and helping individuals regain control of their lives.
